BASF has renewed its ISO certification for quality, environment and energy at its Düsseldorf-Holthausen and Monheim am Rhein sites

  • Key standards for quality, environment and energy management successfully confirmed
  • Integrated management system enables optimum networking of quality, environment and energy efficiency requirements

BASF has successfully renewed its quality (ISO 9001), environment (ISO 14001) and energy (ISO 50001) certifications for its Düsseldorf-Holthausen and Monheim am Rhein sites. After a four-day external audit by two auditors from DQS GmbH, certification was issued for key standards in quality, environmental and energy management at the largest BASF manufacturing site for the production of ingredients for the Personal Care business, and the administrative headquarters in Monheim am Rhein.

ISO 9001 is a standard for quality management systems that builds the basis for the EFfCI certification which was implemented at all BASF’s Personal Care sites globally. This step helps to ensure customer expectations are met, along with legal and regulatory requirements for products and services. The aim of ISO 50001:2018 is to continuously improve energy efficiency, use and consumption. ISO 14001 in turn requires the environmental aspects of all activities, products and services to be actively identified in order to ensure their impact on the environment is understood. It is one of the most widely recognized international standards for environmental management systems. The audit showed that, alongside Monheim, the production site in Düsseldorf-Holthausen clearly fulfilled all the requirements of these three risk- based ISO standards. The certification issued is recognized worldwide and acknowledged across multiple industries.

Integrated management system ensures continuity in quality, environment and energy efficiency

The renewed certification of the Düsseldorf-Holthausen and Monheim am Rhein sites confirms that they are continuously working on improving quality, energy efficiency and the impact on environment. Their efforts are based on an integrated management system (IMS) that was introduced back in 2019 and successfully audited. The IMS enables the different requirements to be linked as effectively as possible in order to create maximum synergy. The purpose of the integrated management system, with its structures and rules, is to ensure the quality of operational performance processes and their continuous improvement to the satisfaction of all interested parties.

“We continuously develop and adapt our integrated management system in order to meet present-day requirements,” explains Karin Borgs, PhD, Head of Environment, Health and Safety Personal Care Europe, who was responsible for coordinating the audit. "Over the past two years, standards for Personal Care Europe have been greatly extended. The Holthausen site is at the forefront of our business in Europe, with 12 active certifications."
